Glossary


Consciousness – the essential awareness of a person of their self and surroundings. However, what consciousness is defined by is constantly in dispute! Why not check Wikipedia for more...


Psi- A Greek term for the word 'psyche' meaning ‘mind' or 'soul’. Relates to all ‘psychic’ phenomena.


Parapsychology- the study of psi and anomalous psychology.

Telepathy- the supposed ability to receive information from another mind.

ESP (Extra Sensory Perception)- the ability to use a ‘sixth sense’ to perceive the outcome of something unknown by the five senses.


PK (Psychokinesis)- the supposed ability to use the mind or consciousness to affect ‘external’ things. Micro PK- Using the mind on a small scale, i.e raising or lowering body temperature
Macro PK- Using the mind to influence matter on a large scale, i.e moving physical objects.


OOBE (Out of Body Experience)- a common experience reported by many whereby consciousness appears to ‘disconnect’ from the body and hovers above the body with full awareness.

NDE (Near Death Experience)- an experience reported by around 10% of resuscitation patients whereby they report a death experience usually involving the following sequence: Out of Body Experience, Tunnel, Bright Light, Feeling of Peace, Life Review,being told it is not their 'time' yet (Moody 1975).           Read the Whole Science article on Near Death Experiences


ASC (Altered State of Consciousness)- An altered state of awareness in which the mind can often gain access to knowledge not previously known, depending on the type of ASC. ASC’s can be induced by drugs, meditation, hypnosis, breathing techniques and more.

Retrointention- The supposed ability to influence the past using the power of the mind on the premise that time is non-linear.


Remote Viewing- The supposed ability to connect to another person’s consciousness or to a place and view what is there.


Clairvoyant- To be able to see in your ‘mind’s eye’ information that could not have come from the five senses.


Clairaudient- To be able to hear ‘internally’ information that could not have come from the five senses.


Clairsentient- To get a ‘gut feeling’ or a ‘inner knowing’ about something that could not have come from the five senses.


Intention- A focused state of attention used to obtain specific results. 

Interconnectedness (theory of)- That all things are interconnected and interrelated at the subatomic level.


Lucid Dreaming- The experience that you become aware that you are dreaming whilst you are still in the dream, and therefore can control your dream.

Déjà Vu- A term used to describe the popular experience that you have done something before.


Transpersonal Experience- An experience that leaves the individual with an expanded sense of self- whereby they feel they are connected to something more than themselves. Usually described as the feeling of ‘oneness’ or as the 'oceanic feeling' by Freud.


Self-Actualisation- A term coined by Abraham Maslow to describe the actualisation or the realisation of a person’s full personal potential.


Precognition (or Presentiment) – A cognition or knowing that something is going to happen before it does. Most commonly found in dreams.
